Professor Subramaniam Raviraj, Chair ofSurgery at the University of Jaffna and Consultant Surgeon at Jaffna Teaching Hospital, has made significant contributions to both medical education and healthcare delivery in Sri Lanka.
During his panel at the Global Health Summit, Prof. Raviraj highlighted the alarming rise in non-communicable diseases (NCDs), mental health challenges linked to socioeconomic and post-conflict stress, and increasing substance abuse in the Northern Province.
We had a brief but meaningful exchange following the session, where we shared CPIP’s vision and our plans to begin implementation in the Northern Province. Prof. Raviraj expressed strong interest and support for our mission. We look forward to continuing this dialogue and exploring collaboration in the weeks ahead.
We had the pleasure of meeting Councillor Parthi Kandavel, who represents Scarborough Southwest, at the Global Health Summit. After the event, we shared CPIP’s vision to pilot a community paramedicine program in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka and our long-term goal to uplift rural and underserved communities through accessible, preventive healthcare.
Councillor Kandavel was incredibly supportive and expressed genuine enthusiasm for our mission. His words of encouragement were both energizing and affirming. We exchanged contact info and are excited about the potential to stay connected as we grow this movement.
We had the pleasure of connecting in person with Dr. Mylashan Mylvaganam, whose early and ongoing support for CPIP has been both meaningful and deeply appreciated. During our conversation, Dr. Mylvaganam emphasized the importance of collaborative, community-based approaches to addressing healthcare disparities, particularly in underserved regions across Sri Lanka.
He shared his encouragement for CPIP’s mission and affirmed that there is space for innovative partnerships like ours to help bridge critical gaps in care. His insight and guidance continue to be invaluable as we chart the next steps in our journey. We’re grateful for his advocacy and look forward to exploring collaborative opportunities with him in the near future.
It was a pleasure reconnecting with the Dean and Professor of Community Medicine from the University of Jaffna during the Global Health Summit. He expressed his continued support for CPIP’s mission and shared his enthusiasm about potential collaboration.
We spoke about meeting again during our next visit to Northern Sri Lanka and discussed how the University could play a vital role in helping us develop a regionally relevant curriculum for the Community Paramedic Program. His encouragement and insight were deeply appreciated, and we look forward to working closely with the university as we prepare to launch our pilot initiative..
